1. Introduction

AI-Ready Capture ("we", "our", or "the extension") is a Chrome browser extension that turns webpages and supported documents into AI-ready structured content, with full-page screenshots and screen recording available when visuals matter. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we access, why we access it, and how it is handled.

By installing or using AI-Ready Capture, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please uninstall the extension.

3. Chrome Permissions Explained

AI-Ready Capture requests the following Chrome permissions. Each is necessary for the extension to function:

• activeTab — Required to identify the tab you are currently viewing when you trigger a capture, so the screenshot targets the correct page.
• scripting — Required to inject the locally bundled content.js script into the active tab. This script scrolls the page, hides fixed navigation elements during capture, and assembles viewport slices into a single image. It runs only when you explicitly trigger a capture — never automatically.
• tabs — Required for three specific operations: finding the active tab, capturing each visible viewport slice, and opening the screenshot viewer in a new tab after capture.
• storage / unlimitedStorage — Required to persist trial start date and licence status in chrome.storage.sync. unlimitedStorage ensures large screenshot images can be held in memory without hitting Chrome's default quota limits.
• identity — Required to read a non-reversible hash of your Google account ID for trial anti-abuse purposes. We read the account identifier, hash it (one-way using a djb2 hash), and store only the hash. We never access your Google credentials, email address for marketing, or any Google account data beyond this identifier. See Section 4 for full details.
• clipboardWrite — Required to let you copy a completed screenshot to your clipboard with one click from the viewer. Nothing is written to the clipboard without your explicit action.

4. Chrome Sync Storage and Trial Anti-Abuse

To provide a fair 7-day free trial, we store your trial start date in chrome.storage.sync. This storage mechanism is provided by Google Chrome and is synced across Chrome browsers signed into the same Google account. Because sync storage persists across extension reinstalls (for the same Google account), it prevents the trial from being reset simply by uninstalling and reinstalling the extension.

We additionally store a short cryptographic hash of your Google account identifier (obtained via chrome.identity.getProfileUserInfo) to detect if you sign into a different Google account — which we treat as a legitimate new user eligible for their own fresh trial. The raw account ID and email are never stored; only the irreversible hash is kept.

The complete list of values stored in chrome.storage.sync and chrome.storage.local:

• trialStart — Unix timestamp (ms) of when your trial began
• trialStartLocal — A secondary copy in local storage to prevent clock-reset abuse
• accountToken — A short hexadecimal hash of your Google account ID; not reversible
• isPremium — Boolean flag set to true upon licence activation
• licenseKey — Your licence key, stored if you activate a purchased licence

This data is managed entirely within Chrome's own storage infrastructure. We do not operate servers that receive or store this data. You can clear it at any time by removing the extension's storage data via Chrome settings, or by clearing Chrome sync data in your Google account settings.

5. Data Sharing and Third Parties

We do not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise share any of your data with third parties. AI-Ready Capture has no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting, and no advertising code embedded in the extension.

The only third-party infrastructure involved is:

• Google Chrome Sync — for storing trial status data (see Section 4). This is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
• Payment processor — if you choose to upgrade to Premium, payment is processed by a PCI-compliant payment provider (such as Stripe or Google Play Billing). We receive only confirmation of a successful payment and your licence key; we do not receive or store your payment card details.

6. Captured Content

The content you capture, including webpage text, document text, screenshots, images, or personal information visible on the captured page, is processed entirely within your browser. It is held only as long as needed to complete the requested action, and is discarded thereafter.

7. Children's Privacy

AI-Ready Capture is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the European Economic Area). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

8. Your Rights (GDPR / EEA Users)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have the following rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable local law:

• Right to access — Request a description of the personal data we hold about you.
• Right to rectification — Request correction of inaccurate data.
• Right to erasure — Request deletion of your data. For sync storage data, the practical mechanism is clearing the extension's storage in Chrome settings or uninstalling the extension.
• Right to restriction — Request that we restrict processing of your data.
• Right to data portability — Request your data in a machine-readable format.
• Right to object — Object to processing based on legitimate interests.

Because we process minimal data and store it locally via Chrome's sync infrastructure (controlled by Google), the practical mechanism for exercising most of these rights is to clear or remove the extension's storage data directly in Chrome.

The legal basis for our processing is legitimate interest (preventing trial abuse to maintain fair pricing) and contractual necessity (licence key storage to verify Premium status you have paid for).

9. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete personal information, and the right to opt out of the sale of personal information.

AI-Ready Capture does not sell personal information. The limited data we process (trial timestamps and account token hashes) is not used for advertising purposes.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify users via the extension's update notes in the Chrome Web Store. Continued use of AI-Ready Capture after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
